I am curious though if they retested the same helmets from the 2020 study, or if they tested the current versions, since testing 5 year old products isn’t really that helpful to current consumers. For instance, I have the current version(new in 2025) of one of the helmets shown on the extended list, but the version shown is a few versions old from several years ago. Regardless of the star rating it got, if it isn’t what is available now, it isn’t really helpful to base a decision on.

There are so many great trails and venues from the rockies to the pacific coast and it’s surprising we haven’t seen races here in many years.

Now bring a DH race too!

More info at the links in the article. As stated, the program doesn’t start until August, and it will be slowly rolled out to select US-based customers before rolling out to all US customers at a later date. It doesn’t sound like this will be available to customers outside the USA.

Agree on Sierra Canyon although I don’t regret riding it. But won’t do so again. Capital to Tahoe is an absolute riot! It would make a great loop with TRT and Clear Creek.

I love exploring new places and know going in that some trails are going to be in poor condition or just plain suck. But you ride them, and then you know, and you never have to ride them again. The examples I can think of had never-ending deadfall or a long, tough climb followed by zero payoff because the descent was an unrideable mess.

Fair enough critique. I don’t think any harm was intended, probably just trying to find a catchy title. But good of you to point it out so that people feel included. That is definitely a worthy goal. Happy trails!

My V1 comes out right at the bottle cage. This looks like it routes further down toward the seat tube. It’s a pain to mount a pump or AirTag holder under the cage. Very nitpicky for an otherwise amazing bike haha. New ones look rad too! I’m partial to the dialed porkchop bag instead of the frame storage though.

The comment in this story about concentrating on handling because it’s easier, I argue is more for a beginner rider. I just ride up steeper climbs faster and it can be just as much effort, especially when chasing a fast rider, and still having to use all my skills to handle the bike. An EMTB can be easier, yet it can also be pushing it to the max. And if anything, that max can be done longer than an analog bike in many situations.

On jumps where maybe I might not have been able to gain enough speed on a normal bike, if I have the e-bike set to turbo, I could kick two quick pedal strokes and boost off the jump lip, similar to how a moto rider might twist the throttle into a jump.

I’m now wondering if some of the modern jump lines I’ve ridden, which have been built in flatter terrain, are built with e-bike speeds in mind. Doing so would allow builders to build bigger and longer jumps even on moderate downhills, but with the caveat that non-motorized riders probably won’t be able to clear them.

Comment on What do you use to add tire sealant? by bdubtc https://www.singletracks.com/mtb-gear/what-do-you-use-to-add-tire-sealant-survey/#comment-310367 Tue, 29 Jul 2025 13:50:32 +0000 https://www.singletracks.com/?p=699239#comment-310367 In reply to joeleejr.

I inject no matter what. I’ve had tires I’ve had to wrestle the bead onto the rim and already having scooped/poured sealant in usually leads to a messy job! I get the tire completely on the rim first (sometimes with the aid of some soapy water, then inject via the valve. Less mess!

The OG Stans one was ok but the screw-on tip was annoying. The Park Tools injector had the best body but the hose was tiny (designed to go inside a core-less Presta valve) so it clogged and kinked/broke often. The Straz funnel works great EXCEPT on Reserve valves – where there’s no way to force the poppet open so the sealant is stuck in the cup. The new Stan’s injector is the best solution so far – pop-on tip, big capacity, sturdy construction, but you have to keep it clean – and even add a bit of silicon lubricant to the plunger seal or it gets very hard to draw/inject. Yes, I’ll add directly to tire if I’m mounting them but don’t like to break the bead otherwise.

The notion of “If you haven’t, you aren’t” is disappointing. Having left California in the early nineties, I haven’t ridden any of these trails. I still proudly recognize my California roots even while living in a town generally recognized as the MTB capitol. The same bias is rampant here. Ride this, or you aren’t. The fact of the matter is that time on the saddle makes you what you are, part of a community.

Thanks for joining! Hope to hear more of your thoughts. Touch points are usually the first thing that need switched up, though!

It makes sense. Like others, what I have found as the most vital upgrades are all the touch points; grips, lever position, bar rotation, bar width, bar height, gear shift lever position, dropper position, etc. The other major upgrade which ultimately made me a much better climber and a negotiator of slow speed tech, is an oval chainring and properly sized crank. My Stumpy came with a 30T round/170mm and I upgraded to a 32T oval/165mm crank and it made a significant difference… enough of a difference to create an account and leave a comment 😉
